They represent a theft of your computer resources. The bit with spyware is obviously theft of service. I use Firefox and Adblock Plus. With that cheat sheet site my screenshot is way better than the one you show, so the popup blocker is working. These companies that slip in the spyware and viruses with the popups are also committing a type of digital rape that does actual damage as users are forced to reinstall everything and lose data [- including irreplacible data. I know, back it up, but that's beside the point. Like spam, the popups are only getting people to slowly oppose _ALL_ advertising. Look at telemarketing and the wildly successful no-call list. That industry is dying a death of a million cuts and nobody has any sympathy. Something for the ilk of DoubleClick to think about. I oppose popup adverts.
